bin LadenThe Saudi-born Islamic militant leader is the prime suspect in the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Bin Laden, who was born on July 28, 1957, fought in Afghanistan against the Soviet invasion and once received CIA training. But in the mid-1980s he formed his own, more radical group – al-Qaida -- that eventually turned its attention to American, Israeli and moderate Arab targets. He was named as a “supporting conspirator” in a Dec. 11 indictment of Zacarias Moussaoui, a French citizen of Moroccan descent who U.S. authorities say was an active participant in the Sept. 11 plot.
