FOLLOW ME TO THE TOP OF ENCHANTED ROCK
Enchanted Rock is located 17 miles north of Fredericksburg, Texas. It is a giant dome of granite called a Batholith. This is formed when magma (molten lava while still beneath the surface) rises into weak spots in the earth's crust, until it loses impetuous or is stopped by hard layers of rock. This particular batholith was deep inside a mountain range that existed in that area of Texas almost a billion years ago, which has since eroded away, exposing the dome we see now.
On Friday, March 9 I was atop this landmark photographing the setting sun, and 15 minutes later, catching the full moon rise on the opposite horizon. It was a spectacular 360 degree view, which cannot be fully appreciated on film. Here is a tour through the photos I took that night which you can follow by clicking on NEXT at the bottom of each page.
